BREAKING: NCDC confirms 4 new cases of coronavirus

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced four new cases of coronavirus across Nigeria. The latest report released at 11:15 am Tuesday, revealed three of the four cases are from Osun State and one from Ogun State. This brings the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 135. This came just 14 hours after 20 new cases were confirmed. “Four new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria; 3 in Osun and 1 in Ogun. BREAKING: Nigeria Records Second Death From Coronavirus

This was announced, on Monday, by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, at the Presidential Task Force Press briefing held at Abuja. According to the minister: “As of today, the 30th of March, 2020, we have recorded 111 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria. Of which 68 are in Lagos, 21 in the FCT, seven in Oyo, three in Ogun, two in Bauchi, two in  Edo, two in Osun, two in Enugu, and one each in Benue, Ekiti, Kaduna and Rivers States. “Majority of them are persons who came from overseas and the others have been traced as close contacts of such returnees. “Till date, three persons have been discharged after successful treatment. But sadly, another fatality was recorded over the weekend in the person of a patient who had severe underlying illnesses. “We have intensified contact tracing and our strategy remains to promptly detect cases, isolate them, and follow up with their contacts and also isolate and treat, in order to reduce the spread of the infection.

Coronavirus: Adenuga donates 1.5 bn naira, Senators forgo 50% salary

More private sector donations continue to pour into Nigeria’s coronavirus combat efforts. The latest is from Mike Adenuga a billionaire businessman who is into telecoms industry. Adenuga on Monday announced a 1.5 billion contribution to be shared between the federal government and Lagos State government. One billion to the federal government and 500 million to Lagos government. Adenuga is owner of Globacom, Nigeria’s second-largest telecom operator, which has a presence in Ghana and Benin. Aliko Dangote, Atiku Abubakar, Bola Ahmed Tinubu are some individuals that have made donations towards the  COVID -19 fight. Meanwhile, local media portals have reported that Senators have pledged half of their salaries towards the coronavirus fight. Nigeria imposes lockdown in cities of Lagos and Abuja to curb coronavirus

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday ordered the "cessation of all movements" for two weeks in largest city Lagos and capital Abuja to stop the spread of coronavirus. "All citizens in these areas are to stay in their homes" starting from 2200 GMT on Monday,  Buhari  announced in a televised address to the nation.  "Travel to or from other states should be postponed. All businesses and offices within these locations should be fully closed during this period." Buhari said the restrictions – which also cover Ogun state neighbouring Lagos – did not include hospitals, food shops and petrol stations. Tottenham striker, Harry Kane has come out to say that he is still undecided on his Spurs future and his decision depends on whether the club can progress on the pitch. Ministry provides 57 MKO Stadium suites, other facilities as COVID-19 treatment centres

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development have made fifty-seven executive suites at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja available for use as COVID-19 isolation and treatment centres.  Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, who spoke at the inspection of facilities at the stadium, said it has become necessary to get them ready for use when the need arises.  “We have 57 executive suites here; you can see how they are, self-contained, with toilets there, and we think this facility belongs to this country and that this facility is available if the need arises,” he said. “As I said, the medical authorities, the health authorities will make that determination on a need basis but this is a typical one. You have seen the toilet and the bath there; you have seen the size of it. Country Music Star Joe Diffie Dies Of Coronavirus

Joe Diffie, a Grammy award-winning country music singer who had several chart-topping hits in the 1990s, has died of coronavirus. He was 61. Diffie’s death was announced on his Facebook page, which said he died on Sunday “from complications of coronavirus.” His death came just two days after he had announced that he had tested positive for the virus and was receiving medical care. “My family and I are asking for privacy at this time,” he said. “We want to remind the public and all my fans to be vigilant, cautious and careful during this pandemic.” Diffie, who was from Oklahoma, had several hit songs during the 1990s including “Pickup Man,” “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die)” and “John Deere Green.” His first album, “A Thousand Winding Roads,” was released in 1990 and including his hit song “Home.” Nearly 137,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the United States and there have been more than 2,400 deaths.

Buhari orders restriction of movement in Abuja, Lagos for 14 days

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the restriction of movements in Nigeria’s capital city Abuja and Lagos, which are the hardest hit by a coronavirus in the country. “Based on the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC, I am directing the cessation of all movements in Lagos and the FCT for an initial period of 14 days with effect from 11 pm on Monday, 30th March 2020. “This restriction will also apply to Ogun State due to its close proximity to Lagos and the high traffic between the two States,” Buhari said in a national address on Sunday evening. “All citizens in these areas are to stay in their homes. Travel to or from other states should be postponed. All businesses and offices within these locations should be fully closed during this period.” Nigeria on Thursday, February 28, confirmed its first case of coronavirus in Lagos State.   Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has discovered 14 new cases of coronavirus. “Fourteen new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria; 9 in Lagos and 5 in FCT,” NCDC tweeted Sunday night “As at 09:30 pm 29th March there are 111 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria with 1 death.”

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Saturday night confirmed eight new cases of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria. NCDC said that as at 10:40p.m. on March 28, Nigeria had additional eight cases. Four of the cases were from Oyo State, two from Abuja, one from Kaduna State and one from Osun. According to the centre, this brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 97, with three discharged and one death recorded. According to the NCDC, Lagos currently has 59 cases, Abuja, 16; Ogun, three; Ekiti, one; Oyo, seven; Edo, two; Enugu, two; Bauchi, two; Benue, one; Kaduna, one; Osun, two, and Rivers, one.

Immigration boss Babandede tests positive for coronavirus

Nigerian Immigration Service boss Muhammed Babandede Sunday said he has tested positive for the new coronavirus, joining the growing list of high-profile Nigerians who have tested positive for the virus. “Today, I tested positive for COVID-19. I have been on self-isolation since my return from UK on Sunday 22nd of this month with British Airways in Lagos,” Babandede said in a WhatsApp message. “I urge my loved ones, Immigration Officers and Nigerians to pray for me and all those affected.” Bauchi and Kaduna states governors Bala Muhammaed and Nasir El-Rufai both announced that they tested positive for the virus but showed no symptoms. Both governors are currently in isolation. Before them, Abba Kyari, the chief of staff to Nigerian president also tested positive. COVID-19: Buhari to address Nigerians at 7pm

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will make a broadcast to the nation this evening at 7pm, the State House has said. “President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 7pm. “Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast”, a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said a few minutes ago. Nigerians have clamored for a broadcast by Buhari over the raging coronavirus pandemic. However, his minders said Buhari’s style was to work and not to make a broadcast. It’s unclear why he has made a U-turn.
